Ban Ya Kaad – A Neighbourhood Gem

Along Soi Pradiphat 10, about 1 km away from Saphan Khwai BTS, is this most charming restaurant. It serves Thai dishes with Chinese and slight Western influences that felt like very well prepared home cooked food.

An inviting entrance
First of three rooms

The menu is quaint, each item in an individual card that you select out, and quite varied, serving both one plate meals and dishes to share.

Choices!

We enjoyed all our dishes, starting with the sesbania flower…

The slightly sweet delicate quality of the flowers paired well with the egg and bits of crispy salted fish.

Next on is a rather unusual dish of steamed egg with squid and prawns with a mild tom yam sauce. A hit with the 4 of us.

Silky smooth custard

Roast duck stirfried with garlic and dried and fresh chillies. Great flavours.

Bittergourd with bacon and eggs. It worked.

Beancurd with minced pork, garlic, chilli oil and rosemary!

Loved this nicely seasoned crispy skinned snapper with spinach and mushroom with a sweet mustard sauce and this did not look out of place with the other dishes.

Good sized very fresh prawns with a ginger, garlic, shallot, chillies, soy and yellow bean sauce. This is something I’m most familiar with as it’s in my repertoire of prawn dishes!

Good service, great ambience with stylish jazz music and reasonably priced ( 2,400 baht for the 7 dishes, plus a bottle of beer and water and rice for the 4 of us ) A restaurant we will definitely come back again and bring our friends to.
